Pros and Cons of Chromebooks

Are we talking a bit too much about Chromebooks? Well, I hardly care about too much because the way Chromebooks have been advancing towards the hearts of the people, I think they need much more attention. I have a laptop by HP with an Intel processor and an Acer Chromebook that is powered by the MediaTek processor. And I have no idea why my laptop has not been switched on for the past many days while I carry my Chromebook everywhere I go.

Either the power and performance of the device backed by its MediaTek processor are too good or it sounds too convenient to me. But does this mean the Laptops lose their credibility? Well, if the answer to this question is a “yes” as per you, I think you should look at the pros and cons of the Chromebooks that I came across as per my experiences:

Pros of Chromebooks:

More Affordable Cost:

This is quite obvious but was important to mention. While a good performing Chromebook would drill a hole of not more than $200 in your bank account, for a decent laptop. You may need to spend around $300 and even $400 if you want the better features. The small size and the compact shape of the Chromebooks make them almost half the cost of Laptops and people really keep this in mind while purchasing them.

More Portable:

This is what I like the most about Chromebooks and this is what many people really want on their laptops. While most MacBooks and other expensive laptops may be quite light, I think spending a huge amount on them is not such a good idea for people. This is why are more inclined towards Chromebooks and are keeping their laptops at bay (including me).

Apart from being light in weight, the Chromebooks are also quite thin and compact in size. You can carry them in a small bag and they would not trouble you with their size.

More Booting Speed:

The booting speed of the laptops is really quick and this is due to 2 major reasons. Firstly, they use Chrome OS which makes them a bit speedy, and secondly, they have very little storage. Instead of using hard drives like the laptops, they use MicroSD cards and this makes them speedier in their booting process.

More Battery Backup:

Maybe the battery capacity of the laptops could be higher, but it is very interesting to know that Chromebooks offer much better battery backup and this is my personal experience. While my laptop lasts at the most 5 hours with normal uses, my Chromebook can go on for 10 hours and I would still not look for its charger. So yes, battery backup is a big advantage and this is something really huge for me.

Cons of Chromebook:

Less Internal Storage:

As I already mentioned, Chromebooks use MicroSD cards instead of Hard Disks and this is why the internal storage available with the devices is quite less. However, you get 100GB of free Google Cloud storage, so this should not be an issue.

Less Heavy Work:

Chromebooks are meant for normal uses and you cannot really force them to perform heavy tasks for you. For instance, you can make video calls, attend online classes, and do most of your office-related online work, but if you think about playing games on it or installing software pertaining to video editing, etc., I don’t think the Chromebooks would oblige you.

So these are some of the pros and cons that I came across using the Chromebooks and I think most people would notice these. However, since the pros of the devices are much more, the Chromebooks have really attracted people. What do you think?
