When 2 giants compete, there are bound to be fireworks and this is what takes place in the smartphone market as well. The latest smartphone chipsets have increased the competition in the market and if you had a few favorite chipsets for the smartphone you were about to buy, you would have some more options.

You might know about the launch of the MediaTek Dimensity 8000 series smartphone chipset and you might also know the main reason why this chipset series hit the market. It actually came to compete with the flagship Qualcomm chipsets that were 5nm in size and were doing really well in the market.

So here, let us compare 2 of the flagship giants — MediaTek Dimensity 8100 and Snapdragon 888 chipset to know the better one between them:

MediaTek Dimensity 8100 vs Snapdragon 888: Specification Comparison

Chipset Size:

It is interesting to know that both MediaTek Dimensity 8100 and Snapdragon 888 are 5nm in size and looks like MediaTek deliberately made this chipset with the 5nm fabrication process just to compete with the Snapdragon chipsets. What do you think?

CPU Structure:

Both MediaTek Dimensity 8100 and Snapdragon 888 chipsets have an octa-core CPU structure and both of them are quite powerful. However, while the cores of MediaTek Dimensity 8100 are clocked at 4 x 2.85GHz & 4 x 2GHz, the CPU cores of the Snapdragon 888 chipset are clocked at 1 x 2.84 & 3 x 2.42 & 4 x 1.8GHz.

So whether you look at the overall CPU clock speed or the max CPU clock speed, MediaTek Dimensity 8100 chipset is in a lead. Overall, MediaTek Dimensity 8100 has about 12.14 percent faster CPU clock speed than the Snapdragon 888 chipset.

AnTuTu Scores:

When tested on AnTuTu 9 benchmark platform, MediaTek Dimensity 8100 was found to score about 851k points while Snapdragon 888 scored 785k points. And this shows that MediaTek Dimensity 8100 took a lead in this aspect as well. As per the stats, the Mediatek chipset was about 7 percent better in terms of AnTuTu 9 scores.

And you would be surprised to know that MediaTek Dimensity 8100 actually defeated even Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset in terms of Geekbench 5 scores. This shows that the Mediatek chipset has actually been aimed to deliver flagship performance.

Connectivity:

Talking about the download speeds of the chipsets, while MediaTek Dimensity 8100 is capable of supporting as much as 4.7GBps download speed and Bluetooth 5.3, Snapdragon 888 chipset comes with 2.5GBps download speed and Bluetooth 5.2 support.

Apart from this, most of the other specifications are similar in both the devices and overall, I think MediaTek Dimensity 8100 chipset is the actual winner here. When a not-the-best chipset from a brand starts defeating the best chipset from the other brand, you can understand that the former brand is getting more powerful.

And same goes with MediaTek and Snapdragon. Even low-power MediaTek chipsets are doing much better than the Snapdragon flagships and this looks like warning bells for a brand like Qualcomm that has been ruling the smartphone market for so long.

I think Mediatek chipsets will take over Snapdragon in the upcoming period. What do you think?
