Exactly after one month after the launch of MediaTek Dimensity 7200 (launched in February 2023), the brand came up with the new MediaTek Dimensity 6020 chip. And while people thought that these MediaTek chips would have a lot of similarities, considering that Dimensity 6000 and Dimensity 7000 series are quite close to each other, they were taken aback when they found out the differences.

MediaTek Dimensity 7200 vs MediaTek Dimensity 6020

Yes, they have some MAJOR differences between them, and even if they appear to be somewhat alike, they hardly match in any aspect. So here I have brought for you a detailed comparison between MediaTek Dimensity 7200 and MediaTek Dimensity 6020 which will help you get a better idea between the two chips:

MediaTek Dimensity 7200 vs MediaTek Dimensity 6020:

  • Let’s start with the size of the chips and you will definitely start finding major differences from the first point itself. While MediaTek Dimensity 7200 processor is just 4nm in size, which is the latest technology at the moment, MediaTek Dimensity 6020 chip is 7nm in size. And you might know already know that chipsets of lower sizes offer better efficiency.
  • Next up is the AnTuTu 9 benchmark score of the chipsets and even this, you see a vast difference between MediaTek Dimensity 7200 and MediaTek Dimensity 6020. While MediaTek Dimensity 7200 scores about 612k on AnTuTu 9, MediaTek Dimensity 6020 scores about 350k. And the former is about 75% better than the latter in the aspect. Even in terms of Geekbench 5 scores, MediaTek Dimensity 7200 does much better.
  • Coming on to the CPU specs of both these chips, while MediaTek Dimensity 7200 contains 2 x Cortex-A715 cores clocked to a max of 2.8GHz and 6 x Cortex-A510 cores which are clocked to a max of 2GHz, MediaTek Dimensity 6020 comes with a 2 x Cortex-A76 cores clocked at 2.2GHz and 6 x Cortex-A55 cores that are clocked to a max of 2GHz. So you see that while MediaTek Dimensity 7200 contains better CPU cores, it also has a much better CPU clock speed.
MediaTek Dimensity 7200 vs MediaTek Dimensity 6020
  • Talking about the memory support with the platforms, MediaTek Dimensity 7200 comes with the LPDDR5 type memory which has a frequency of 6400MHz and a max bandwidth of 51.2GBit/s. Against this, MediaTek Dimensity 6020 contains LPDDR4X memory type with a frequency of 2133MHz and a max bandwidth of 17.07Gbit/s.
  • If you look at the multimedia specifications of both these devices, the MediaTek Dimensity 7200 chip supports up to 200MP cameras and 4K video captures and playbacks as well. Against this, MediaTek Dimensity 6020 can support only up to 64MP cameras and 2K video captures and playbacks.
  • When it comes to connectivity, MediaTek Dimensity 7200 chip has a download speed of up to 4700Mbps. Besides, it has Wi-Fi 6 support and Bluetooth 5.3 as well. In comparison, MediaTek Dimensity 6020 can support only up to 2770 Mbps download speed, Wi-Fi 5, and Bluetooth 5.1

So with all these features and comparisons, you would have seen that MediaTek Dimensity 7200 has much better specs than MediaTek Dimensity 6020 chip and the newer chip is more of a budget segment option, close to MediaTek Dimensity 700 in terms of specifications. What do you think?
