Amazon Echo Dot 4th Gen vs Amazon Echo Dot 5th Gen: What’s the Difference?
While people were waiting for the successor to Amazon Echo Dot 4th Gen, the brand came up with the new Amazon Echo Dot 5th Gen a few days back. However, while we were expecting some huge changes because it took so much time to get launched, the changes between the two generations, or the devices, might surprise you.
So fasten your seat belts because I am about to take you on a tour to find the differences between the Amazon Echo Dot 4th Gen and Amazon Echo Dot 5th Gen. You can get a better idea from these and buy the one that suits you accordingly.
Design and Weight:
If you look at the design of both these Amazon Echo Dots, you might not be able to differentiate between them because both devices are exactly the same in their shape and size. However, the newer, Amazon Echo Dot 5th Gen device is slightly higher in terms of its weight and it weighs about 340g against Amazon Echo Dot 4th Gen which weighs about 328g.
However, you need to know that there is a front and back in the newer device, which was absent in the previous Amazon Echo Dot 4th Gen. In the newer version, the plastic of the base ring rises up to the back half, but Amazon Echo Dot 5th Gen has only a power connection out while the previous device had a 3.5mm audio output support as well.
Other than this, while both these devices are available in Glacier White and Charcoal colors, the newer, Amazon Echo Dot 5th Gen has a Deep Sea Blue option as well. Both of them have a visual clock but the newer version has a more detailed view.
Quality of Sound:
While the aesthetics did not show any significant change, you will notice a change in the audio quality of the device. Talking about numbers, the Amazon Echo Dot 5th Gen has a 1.73-inch speaker against the 1.6-inch speaker in the Amazon Echo Dot 4th Gen device.
And while this is the change, the brand boasts of delivering a better bass with the new device and even the distortions would be less at the high volumes.
Other Features:
While both the devices contain Alexa support, the newer Amazon Echo Dot 5th Gen comes with some additional features and these are a temperature sensor and an accelerometer etc.
The temperature sensor would be able to offer the temperature of the room you are in and you can mirror the same feature on the bigger Echo devices as well. Besides, you can include the temperature sensor to Alexa routines and the Echo device will automatically sense the temperature of the room to turn on or off the fan or the thermostat.
Not to forget, the new Amazon Echo Dot 5th Gen is also a part of Amazon’s Eero network and this extends the network support for better connectivity. This is planned to start with the Echo Dot 5th Gen but will also arrive in the Amazon Echo Dot 4th Gen.
These are some of the major differences between the Amazon Echo Dot 5th Gen and Amazon Echo Dot 4th Gen and you might have seen that Amazon Echo Dot 5th Gen certainly does slightly better, while it occurs at a slightly higher cost. What are your views of the devices and which one of these do you find better?
